The expansion of access to information through the internet, and the rise of almost unlimited sources of news and opinion has given rise to an unprecedented spread of disinformation and misrepresentation about marginalized and oppressed populations that negatively impacts young and old alike.

About the event
The expansion of access to information through the internet, and the rise of almost unlimited sources of news and opinion has given rise to an unprecedented spread of disinformation and misrepresentation about marginalized and oppressed populations that negatively impacts young and old alike. This workshop will examine both historical contexts for this decay of evidence and fact-based journalism and commentary, and expose specific language and strategies being used to intensify bias and discrimination.
Additional Details:
- All sessions will be via Zoom.
- Each day will begin at 9 am, and wrap up at 4 pm. A one hour lunch break and morning/afternoon breaks will be built in.
- Each session will be recorded, and will be available after the sessions (for a limited time).
- The sessions are intended to build on one another, however they can be attended as stand alone sessions if your schedule does not permit attendance at all three.
- Registration fees for these sessions are covered by the Columbia REN.
- PDUs will be available upon completion.
