Participants will explore routines, structures, and community-building practices that support student voice, connection, and engagement from day one. You will leave with ready-to-use tools to foster a positive, inclusive classroom climate.

Supporting LGBTQIA2S+ Students in our Rural Community: Starting the Conversation

How can educators, classrooms, & schools support LGBTQIA2S+ students in our rural community? Where do I even begin? Where do I learn more? Who can I connect with for support? 

Join the Columbia Regional Educator Network (CREN), for this introductory workshop that will explore the experiences of LGBTQIA2S+ students within the education system through local and state data. Together, we’ll discuss how to begin creating affirming, inclusive environments in classrooms & schools. This session will be a collaborative space that will offer a starting point for educators and admin around supporting LGBTQIA2S+ students.

Becoming an Identity Conscious Educator - An Exploration of Self
April 14, 2026  4:30 - 6:00 pm 

Our identities shape how we teach, lead, and interact each day—often in ways we may not immediately recognize. Developing an identity-conscious practice means building awareness of how our experiences and perspectives influence our decisions, relationships, and classroom environments. In this session, participants will explore practical tools to reflect on identity, deepen understanding, and strengthen inclusive, equity-centered practices.

Cultivating Belonging: Inclusive Classroom Practices and Instruction
April 20, 2026  4:30 - 6:00 pm 

Design instruction and classroom practices that are inclusive, affirming, and responsive to diverse learners. Participants will examine instructional strategies, classroom practices, and learning structures that reduce barriers and increase access, engagement, and belonging for all students. You will leave with concrete approaches to strengthen equity and inclusion in daily teaching.

Identity Conscious Classroom Practices
April 28, 2026  4:30 - 6:00 pm 

When educators and school leaders center identity in their practice, they create learning environments that are more responsive, inclusive, and affirming for all students. Ignoring the role of identity can unintentionally reinforce barriers and inequities in schools. In this interactive workshop participants will work through practical applications for strategies to infuse identity into their classroom practices

Cultivating Belonging: Curriculum Evaluation and Adaptation
May 11, 2026  4:30 - 6:00 pm 

Explore a structured process for examining curriculum through an equity and belonging lens. Participants will learn how to identify gaps, bias, and barriers in instructional materials and adapt lessons to better reflect and serve all students. You will leave with tools and strategies to thoughtfully evaluate and modify curriculum for greater relevance, access, and impact.

Creating Inclusive Classrooms: Recognizing and Responding to Harm (A Bystander Training)
May 12, 2026  4:30 - 6:00 pm 

This interactive workshop is designed to deepen our collective ability to recognize and respond to harmful language, behaviors, and actions that impact LBGTQIA2S+ folks within our schools and classrooms. Come prepared to explore barriers to action, get creative on how to respond, and engage with other folks interested in creating communities that support and affirm LGBTQIA2S+ staff and students.

LGBTQ+ Rights at School: Legal Knowledge
May 19, 2026  4:30 - 6:00 pm 

This practical, real-world based training helps school staff begin to build the foundation to confidently navigate their legal obligations to students and colleagues under Oregon law. Participants will unpack key laws, court cases, and system-level responsibilities, then practice concise, legally grounded language they can use in real conversations with families, colleagues and community members. Participants will walk away with a quick reference guide to help them.
